The City of Gwalior
Gwalior city, located in north Madhya Pradesh was named after Gwalipa, a legendary saint of 8th Century. The city centers around a fortress, one of the most famous in India situated on a cliffed plateau nearly three kilometers long and rising a sheer 90 meters from the plain.
Gwalior is a bustling city with a population of over 16 lakhs people. It is centrally located 317 kms. from Delhi, 110 kms from Agra and 400 kms. from Bhopal. It is well connected with Delhi, Bhopal, Indore, Mumbai, Pune, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad by train, road and air.
Most famous and memorable landmarks include Gwalior Fort, the statue of Rani Jhansi, the tomb of the famous musician Tansen, Jai Vilas Palace and Museum.
The industrial history of the Gwalior dates back to later part of 19th Centuary when Birlas established here their Textile business. The well known Grasim & Gwalior Suiting brand was born in this region. Gwalior has kept pace with time making it emerge as a vibrant city of Madhya Pradesh.
